THE COMPANY

Since 1969 McMullen & Wing Ltd has forged a name for itself in the New Zealand boat-building industry. Early years saw McMullen & Wing complete numerous new-build and refit projects of motoryachts and sailing yachts.
In the early 1980's McMullen & Wing emerged as a pioneer in aluminium yacht construction in New Zealand, producing a range of vessels from private sailing yachts and launches to light commercial vessels such as passenger vessels, and Police and Pilot boats.

In 1985 the company had won the contract to build the first 3 composite-hulled 12-metre racing yachts for the 1987 America's Cup Challenge.

This event set McMullen and Wing as prime contenders to build challenging boats for the 1995 Cup. The success with BLACK MAGIC winning the 1995 Challenge demonstrated the companys ability to build hi-tech racing boats to extremely high levels of accuracy, and propelled them into the world arena.

McMullen & Wing Yard
In 1986 the company was purchased by David and Terry Porter and has developed from a small but high profile company of 19 staff into one of New Zealand's most prominent yacht builders.
Two decades of management has seen the Porters build larger more complex yachts, changing processes and lifting standards of construction and finishing.

In the late 1990's a conscious decision was made to move away from refits (which at the time made up 70% of the yard's work) and head the comapny towards new build projects, and ultimately into superyacht construction.

At present there are approximately 100 staff on site covering management and administration, design and drafting, welding and fabrication, boat-building, laminating, electrical service, engineering, joinery, painting and polishing.

McMullen & Wing's present focus is to maintain its success within the superyacht industry. Projects such as SURPRISE, JARIYA, ERMIS2 and BIG FISH continue to demonstrate the company's capability and diversity in the production of custom superyachts.
